Adivasi Mahasabha to starts from Oct 4
A hectic preparation is in full swing to host 12th Adivasi Mahasabha with three days colourful programme scheduled at Magurmari High School ground from October 2 next in Kokrajhar district.
Stephen Lakra, working president of the Reception Committee of the Mahasabha told that the Mahasabha has been organising to uplift social, literary and community integration of the Adivasi in Assam as well across the country.
Over 2000 delegates from various districts of Assam are participating in the grand function, besides 50,000 people's thronged has been expected on the open session of the Mahasabha. The reception committee has engaged 150 volunteers to serve the Mahasabha to market a grand successful which is the biggest function of the Adivasi community in the state.
Dr Rameswar Oraon, chairman National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will grace as chief guest, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary has consented to grace as inaugurator on the open session on October 4, Lakra said.

A cadre of the NDFB-S was apprehanded by security forces at an operation raided from Selekhaguri area under Serfanguri PS of Kokrajhar district this morning. A joint team of security forces belonging to Police, Army and CRPF Cobra battalion manage to arrest a cadre of the militant outfit organization this morning around 5.30 am from Selekhaguri in Kokrajhar district. BPF is gearing up for Assembly elections early next year gathering more and more support in BTAD areas. Very recently more than 5000 supporters from PCDR, BPPF and Congress joined in the party in Kokrajhar alone.Talking to Assam Times, BPF MLA from Kokrajhar west Pradip Kumar Brahma said more and more people are joining the party very soon. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said his government will not impose ban on sale of meat. In a statement issued on Sunday, Gogoi said the ban on sale of meat by some states is a retrogressive step as it violates the rights of the people to eat whatever food they like.Gogoi described the ban as decline from a better to a worse state as "people have the right to choose the food they prefer to eat." However, Gogoi said, his statement should not construed as promotion of non-vegetarianism. "A vegetarian has the same right as a non-vegetarian to eat whatever food he or she prefers," he said.
