World Tourism Day at Pasighat

World Tourism Day was celebrated at Pasighat on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner Isha Khosla along with SP T Konia, ADC Deepak Shinde, CC (PMC) Denong Tamuk, DTO (Tourism) Nui Talong and HoDs joined in a mass plantation organized by the tourism department in and around the DC’s office complex. Cassia Fistula seedlings were provided by Nido D Pubiyang, Soil Conservation Officer, RWD.

Later in an impressive function of launching of crockery/cutlery, held at the office conference hall DC Khosla stated that East Siang District is naturally blessed and has immense potentials to attract domestic and international tourists. Tourism is a lucrative industry that provides lot of job opportunities that has a multiplier effect on economy, she pointed out. Pristine beauty and location advantage of Pasighat could play leading role to showcase the colorful and diverse culture of Arunachal Pradesh in general towards promotion of tourism. She laid stress on ‘Home Stay’ involving local communities in all tourism initiatives. Advocating Atithi Devo Bhaba mantra, Khosla said there were few important factors, such as proper road and rail and air connectivity and accommodation facilities with clean and hygienic foods, ATM kiosks, handicraft and local crafts sales facilities and basic hygienic amenities at the halting points and en-route.  Pasighat in particular has records of which we all feel proud. The Poju Mimak reflects the valor, courage and bravery of the great sons of our soil. The mighty river Siang not only provide livelihood to the people but also a unique playground for water sports like Colorado. If properly tapped, these would open the floodgate of tourists coming to Arunachal, the DC opined. We have to work on low cost tourism to attract tourists. The day is not far, when we would have largest number of tourists, both domestic and international coming to Siang belt as favorite destination’, added Sharma in his deliberation.

PMC Chief Councilor Denong Tamuk said people to know our unique culture and traditions and cultivate respect for us via tourism. He handed over certificates to fifty participants who have recently completed training on “Home Stay”.
