Award for Delong Padung

Renowned Arunachalee singer, lyrist, music composer and director and chreographer Delong Padung walked at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan hall, Agartala, Tripura today to receive the National Award, sponsored by the Sangeet Natak Akademi (GoI) for his notable talent in the field of Folk Music of Arunachal Pradesh.

Worth to mention here that the Sangeet Natak Akademi was established by the Government of India on 31 May 1952, is the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama. It was created as the apex body in the country for the task of preservation and promotion of the performing art tradition of India.

Tripura Governor, Tathagata Roy in presence of Shekhar Sen, Chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademy (GoI), presented the “Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, 2013-14,” to Padung at a glittering function in recognition of his remarkable contributions in the field of Folk Music of Arunachal Pradesh. The award comprizes Memento, Citation and twenty-five thousand cash.

Born on 4th May in Rayang village, East Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh, Delong Padung has inherited his love of the folklore of Arunachal Pradesh from his forefathers. Master in History, Padung also completed Bachelors of Education and Mass Communication and Journalism. He has performed folk music on several important occasions in and outside the state such as Arunachal Festival (2014), Srhad O Swaranjali (Itanagar, 2013), Pasighat Centenary (2011) and also bagged first position in Pratishruti a tele-competition for NE Doordarshan. Recently in 2014, he participated in Adi tribe documentary, sponsored by Vashali Trust, Mumbai. The young singer/composer holds the key to a brilliant career in music. Besides sixteen local languages, Padung also sang in Assamese and Mising songs. Recently he has been inducted as a member of the National Expert Committee for the fellowship scheme for folk traditional and indigenous art. Padung has established Karpung Karduk Akademi in his native village Rayang to promote traditional and Indigenous art. In his brilliant career, Padung has received numerable awards that include State Award by Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Commendation Certificate by the East Siang Deputy Commissioner and was honoured by Adi Bane Kebang for his meritorious service in the field of Culture and Entertainment.
