EC bans more than 100 NE candidates

At least 25 people who contested the last assembly and parliamentary polls in Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland won’t be able to do it till 2017. The Election Commission has disqualified these candidates for not submitting the details of their expenditures when they contested the last polls. 

The country’s poll panel has disqualified 3 candidates in Arunachal Pradesh. They are Koruna Morang, Geli Ete and Bote Yuto who have been barred from contesting the polls till 2017. They are apart from 3 other candidates from Meghalaya to have faced the stern action. They are namely Sofior Rahman, Pyndapborthiaw Saibon, Teiborlang Pathaw while M. Lalmanzuala, Lalthlahlova, and Biakmawawia have been disqualified in Mizoram. 

In Manipur, the Election Commission has disqualified 8 candidates namely NaoremIbeama Dev, Arambam BirendraSingh, Thingbaijam IbosanaMeitei, Takhellambam NepoleanSingh, Zanamuddin Yairipok, JalaluddinShah, Y.Borajao, Solankee Chothe and Lunkhomang who did not submit their expenditure details.

Tripura has 5 candidates who won’t be able to contest the next assembly and parliamentary polls. They are ChandanDas, Mangalia Debbarma,  Lukesh Sabdakar, Bimal Debbarma, DurgacharanDeb who have not submitted their expenditure details before the returning officers during the  last polls.

Nagaland has only Lachit Khersa who has been barred from contesting the polls.

These are apart from 88 other people from Assam who have faced the similar action from the Election Commission.

The Kamrup(rural) police have arrested three more people on Saturday two days after the along with four others gangraped a woman in Rangiya on Thursday. The trio were arrested after the victim’s niece identified them on Saturday. Yet another person is on the run.The incident took place when the victim along with her husband from Tamulpur were on the way to their relatives’ house in the evening. Three persons thrashed the husband and took away the woman to be repeatedly by a gang of seven youths.  The couple have been undergoing treatment at the hospital. Police caught three of the gang hours after the incident while three others were held on Saturday.

The Kamrup(rural) police have arrested three persons on Friday a day after the trio along with 4 others gangraped a woman in Rangiya after beating up her husband. Senior most Gauhati High Court judge Justice Tinlianthang Vaiphei will take over as the Chief Justice on October 21. The death of a girl passenger inside a moving train sends no less sensation in Hojai on Friday. Identified as Anima Tanti, she was found dead inside the Guwahati-Ledo Intercity Express at Hojai station on Thursday midnight. Tani, who was an employee with a non governmental organization in Guwahati was on her way to Doomdooma on Thursday evening. At least 15 people sustained injury when the passenger bus carrying them from Dhubri met with a mishap in Guwahati on Friday.The mishap took place at Jalukbari in the wee hours where the Guwahati-bound slipped into a gorge after the driver was believed to have lost control over it. Police and local residents rushed the injured passengers to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Yet another poor family is believed to have committed suicide sending no less shock and sensation across the state of Assam on Thursday. The fresh incident took place in Bongaiogaon district where local resident of Salbagan area in Bongaigaon town Sanjoy Bose, his wife Rumpa and 5 year old daughter Pujur commited suicide on Thursday wee hours.
