Kurmi gets power; home to Sushanta

Thowra MLA Sushanta Buragohain gets home department a week after he took oath as parliamentary secretary. Rupjyoti Kurmi was given power portfolio while his counterpart in health department is Dr Rumi Nath. Aarti Kachair gets social welfare department while kamalakha Purkayastha will look after the water resources.

The chief minister has given animal husbandry department to Sanjay Raj Subba. Manika Bora will look after the revenue department while Hemanta Talukdar will be the parliamentary secretary for agriculture.

All they took oath on Wednesday.

This is a ploy of Congress government giving portfolios before the Assembly elections. It means that Congress is giving a chance to its MLA to loot the money as much as possible before the elections so that they can cover up the bank balance as Congress is going to lose the upcoming election in Assam.

Home ministry’s joint secretary Sambhu Singh is on a two days stock-taking visit to the state in the wake of the Bihali incident where Arunachal Pradesh miscreants killed 11 villagers in Sonitpur district last week.Singh on Wednesday held a high level meeting with DGP Khagen Sarma at the Assam Police headquarters in the afternoon, who apprised him of the overall law and order situation.  He is scheduled to hold more meeting with civil and police officials on Thursday in Dispur.
The Assam government has written to the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the Chauldhuwa incident where Arunachal Pradesh miscreants killed 11 villagers in Sonitpur district last week.Disclosing this, chief minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters in Dispur that his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Nabam Tuki also wanted the probe to unearth the probe.According to him, altogether 11 villagers were killed and seven others have been remaining traceless.
Education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday claimed that Congress and BPF candidates would win the Rajya Sabha poll. He said that no horse trading is required for it.Addressing a press conference in Dispur, Dr Sarma said that the results would be available on Thursday afternoon day before the poll.He said that the Opposition only pins hopes on 32 votes. But he said that practically it would hardly be proved. According to him, TMC legislator Dipen Pathak has written commitment to support the Gogoi government in 2011 which will stay.        
APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita called on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in Dispur two days before the Rajya Sabha polls.The duo are believed to have discussed the Rajya Sabha polling on Friday. Later talking to reporters, Kalita said that Congress and its alliance BPF will comfortably win the polls.Congress has fielded Kalita and Dr Sanjay Sinh while its alliance BPF has fielded Biswajeet Daimary.
AIUDF president Badaruddin Ajmal on Wednesday asked his legislators to stay together in Guwahati to ensure that nobody can influence them for the Rajya Sabha polls.In his address at the legislators’ meeting in presence of opposition consensus candidate Haidor Hussain, Ajmal said that all of his legislators would vote for Hussian.According to him, the MLA now on foreign tour is arriving in Guwahati on Thursday to vote Hussain.
AGP president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta claimed on Wednesday that a Congress leader promised a huge Rs 10 crore to a non Congress MLA for vote in the Rajya Sabha polls on February 7.Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Wednesday, Mahanta said alleged that the ruling party leader made the offer over telephone on Tuesday night.He said that a section of ruling party leaders is desperately looking for opposition party legislators for vote in favour of the Congress and BPF candidates.He, however, refused to divulge the name of the opposition party leader.
After AGP and AIUDF, Bharatiya Janata Party has issued whip to all of its legislators to vote for Haidor Hussain in the Rajya Sabha polls slated for Friday.In its three line whip, the party leadership has asked its five MLAs to be present in the voting, to vote for Haidor Hussain. They were further asked to show the ballot papers to the authorized leader after the voting.   
In a major setback for Delhi police, the Delhi High Court today rejected the report on the sensational Nido Tania murder case.A division bench of the court said that it was no happy with the report on the racial attack case in South Delhi last week.The court further asked Delhi police to submit fresh report tomorrow. Taking up a suo moto case, the court three days back asked the Centre and Delhi government to file an action taken report.
AIUDF has issued whip to all of its legislators today to vote for the Opposition consensus candidate in the upcoming Rajya Sabha poll.The party legislators along with the senior leaders held a brainstorming session at the party headquarters in Hatigaon where they agreed to vote Haidor Hussain on Friday.AGPP, AIUDF and BJP will back Hussain while Congress has two candidates of its own. The ruling party will back BPF candidate Biswajeet Daimary.          
A circle of senior AGP leaders is all set to join BJP. They include former party president Chandra Mohan Patowary. According to information, the senior AGP leaders have already talked to the BJP stalwarts in New Delhi.For the last couple of years they have been unhappy with the functionings of the party leadership on many occasions.Apart from them two senior journalist including Adip Kumar Phukan is believed to have been preparing to join BJP on February 8 when prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi would be holding a rally in Guwahati.
