IITian found dead

A B Tech student is believed to have committed suicide in the morning leaving the Guwahati IIT in utter shocked on Friday.
Identified as Ujjal Salil, the body of student from Bihar was found at the campus early in the morning. The inmate of the Brahmaputra Hostel was suspected to have jumped to the ground.

Police recovered the body and investigation is going on. This is the third such tragic incident at the country’s premier seat of science and technology in Guwahati during the last 12 months.

Last year in the same month i.e. on 14/09/2014 our son Tushar Yadav was also found dead behind his room in Kameng Hostel, before we reached there from Delhi IIT Guwahati declared it as suicide. Same thing happened in today"s case.  After our strong oppose case of conspiracy and murder was registered since then Police and IIT Guwahatidid nothing at yet, we at our level providing evidences, activities of suspects but all in vain. You the media also continuously describing as suicide why? On that day you the media failed to did your duty to find out facts then wrote such thing. If you did that in so hurry then why not you published the story of conspiracy and murder. This IIT has continue taking life of young engineers no media no ngo no political system no UGC no NHRC no Court take notice of it. We the grieved parents of Tushar can understand the loss that the family of Ujjal Shailabh have to bear through whole life, what else we can say   Narender Singh ( Gurgaon)

No tobacco please!

Dispur is all set to ban tobacco. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has asked the health department to table a bill in the assembly banning all kinds of tobacco products including smokeless tobacco. Assembly begins budget session

The Assam assembly began its budget session on a stormy note on Monday. Governor Janki Ballav Patnaik opened the month long session with his customary speech. As the governor rose to deliver the speech, opposition members stood up resulting in an uproarious situation on the floor. Amid deafening din, the governor stopped his speech and left the assembly.

Elephant carcass found in Jorhat

Much to the utter disappointment of the nature lovers, the carcass of an elephant calf was found in Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary in Jorhat district on Sunday.The female elephant, suspected to have been poisoned, was found in Koliapani range of the sanctuary by forest guards on patrol.A postmortem would be conducted to ascertain the cause of the elephant's death.

Two rhino poachers arrested

Two poachers who are suspected to be involved in the recent rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park, have been arrested during a joint operation by police and forest department in Sonitpur district on Sunday.Police and forest department officials, nabbed the duo from North Bank of Brahmaputra at Bishwanath Ghat.They have been identified as Aamir Islam and Moina Das and were suspected to be involved in the recent killing of rhinos and removal of horns in the park.

Violence mars 100 BTAF bandh

A fresh orgy of violence marred the 100 hour long BTAD bandh which started from Friday morning crippling normal life in the entire area.Peoples' Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement called the bandh demanding talks with NDFB(P) at the political level with the Union Home Minister and also to press for a separate Bodoland.An unidentified body was recovered from Bagansali area under Kokrajhar police station while bandh supporters set ablaze a motorcycle in Kokrajhar town.All shops, business and commercial establishments educational institutions and markets remaining closed. DNLF militant arrested in Dima Hasao

A suspected Dimasa National Liberation Front group was arrested at Hatikhali in Dima Hasao district on Friday.Identified as Son Khelma, the militant was nabbed when he came to collect extortion money from a bank in the area.The DNLF had about four years ago abducted at gun-point four surveyors for a Chennai-based private company from Khelma Basti village under Langting police station of the district. Later they were rescued by extremists of another insurgent outfit Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel faction) after an encounter between the two groups and handed over to the police.

Another rhino killed in Kaziranga

Despite round-the-clock vigil, rhino poaching refuses to die down in the Kaziranga National Park. Carcass of yet another rhino was found on Friday inside the world heritage site.Poachers killed another rhino in the park on Thursday night and fled with its horn. The incident took place at Arikati area inside the park under Agoratoli forest range. Forest guards found the body on Friday morning, with the horns missing.

Major blast averted in Guwahati

Guwahati had a narrow escape from a huge explosion when police recovered a powerful bomb on Tuesday morning in the city.The bomb was planted inside an abandoned bag which was kept in front of the Refinery Gate in Noonmati. On spotting the suspicious object panic stricken local residents called up police in the morning. Noonmati police arrived in the spot with sniffer dogs. Bomb disposal squad arrived on the spot and defused the bomb.
