Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Explosion before Cinema hall

Workshop on Reporting Armed Conflict & International Humanitarian Law

181 helpline for women

Dispur is prepared to operationalise 181 helpline exclusively for women in distress.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi writes to Chief Secretary PP Verma asking him to instruct the state Home and Political Department to work out an action plan to operationalise the 181 helpline facility for women as it was in other states like Delhi.Gogoi directed that the helpline be operationalised in consultation with the Assam Police, Health and Family Welfare, Assam State Disaster Management Authority and other line departments. Dispur firm on ST status

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the state government would continue its fight to get ST status for six communities in the state.Talking to reporters on Monday, Gogoi said that his government woud be fighting for the ST status for the six communities saying that it was a legitimate demand.He said the Centre has not rejected the proposal. Only the Registrar General Of India (RGI) has not recommended the proposal. He said that the state government would write to New Delhi again on the issue.The Assam government has recommended ST status for Koch-Rajbongshis, Tai Ahoms, Morans, Muttocks, Chutias and tea tribe/adivasi communities.

VHP role in Silchar: CM

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has alleged Vishwa Hindu Parishad’ role in the violence in Silchar where over 50 people have been injured.Talking to reporters Gogoi called BJP, VHP and other associates communal adding that these elements were creating communal tension and trying to divide the society on the basis of religion.

Land deal to benefit Assam!

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is firm on his stand on the land-swap deal with Bangladesh.Talkin to reporters in Guwahati on Monday, Gogoi said that 665 acre of state land was under the possession of the neighbouring country since Independence.He said, "we are working on this and now we will get back 397.5 acres from them."

RI for two officers

Two Assam government officers were sentenced to seven years Rigorous Imprisonment for their involvement in the PDS rice scam.Tinsukia Chief Judicial Magistrate N S Deori sentenced former Kakopathar Block Development Officer Alizur Rehman Bora and Extension Officer Kshitij Kakati to seven years RI along with a fine of Rs 50,000 each. The duo were convicted for selling PDS rice, meant to be sold to BPL section at Rs two, at Rs 12-14 in 2007.

Absu ends hunger strike

The All Bodo Students’ Union finally ended its indefinite hunger strike with lemon water from the hands of Mangalsing Narzary.The decision was taken after the Centre invited them for tripartite talks on September 4. ABSU president Pramod Boro declared  withdrawal  of  their 52 hr long indefinite hunger strike on Saturday .
