Modi's effigy burnt

Members from Sadou Assam Goria Maria Deshi Jatiya Parsishad protested the decision of the union government to accord citizenship right to Hindu migrants from Bangladesh and burnt effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Baruapara in Kokrajhar district on Thursday. 

The parishad strongly objected and demanded early stop of decision to grant entry and stay right to Hindu migrants in Assam from Bangladesh.

The illegal migrants of Bangladesh irrespective of religion should be sent back to their country. There is no place for Hindu Bangladeshi or Muslim Bangladeshi in Assam.

Social activist passes away

Gopal Chandra Basumatary is no more. The president of All BTAD Gaonburah Association breathed his last at his resident Kashibari in Kokrajhar on Saturday. He was 68. He is survived by his wife, son and daughters. The BTAD administration observed half holiday in four districts following death of Gopal Chandra Basumatary. BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary and ABSU Promod Boro condoled the death of the leader and conveyed their deep sympathies to the bereaved family.

3 injured in road mishap

At least three persons sustained serious injuries when a Bolero and Tata Sumo collided head on at Balajan Tiniali near CIT campus in Kokrajhar Friday. An unregistered Bolero used by army jawans located at Patarghat came face to face with a Tata Sumo bearing registration number AS 16 9849 when it was on its way to deliver Sal logs to the CIT Kokrajhar campus along with two labourers. Jaiklong's wife files petition

Family members of arrested television journalist Jaiklong Brahma alleged that police has not yet made medical care available to him. His wife Citra Brahma claimed that her husband suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes. "He is bereft of medical attention. More so, he is held up in an unhygienic lockup," she said. She demanded medical facility for Brahma and that he be kept in a suitable room. Citra Friday filed a petition seeking immediate medical facility and health care. Kokrajhar correspondent for News Live, Brahma was arrested on September 2 under suspicion of aiding the banned NDFB (S). He is presently under five days police remand.

Teachers Day without TV Show

At a time when Ministry of HRD instructed to observe the Teachers’ Day with live show speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ultapani ME School along the Indo-Bhutan international border observed the occasion without facility of Live Show through TV or any internet in Kokrajhar district on Friday. ABSU, AASU slam government

The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and the All Assam Students Union (AASU) slammed the state government for arresting journalist Jaiklong Brahma and said that the government has failed to take stern actions against the armed outfits and arrested Brahma to divert their failure. Lawrence Islary, president of the ABSU Kokrajhar District Committee said that the arrest of Brahma was unfortunate and it saw the failure of the government in taking strong actions against outfits in the region. Members of the media fraternity, students' bodies and social activists took part in a two hour sit-in organized by the Kokrajhar Press Club in front of Pragati Bhawan in Kokrajhar Thursday to protest against the dramatic arrest of journalist Jaiklong Brahma. Journalist Jaiklong Brahma arrested

Jaiklong Brahma, a senior journalist in Kokrajhar, was arrested by police on Tuesday night in Kokrajhar for links with NDFB (Songbijit faction). Brahma, who is currently working as Correspondent with a Guwahati based satellite television channel.  Brahma was called by police for personal discussion at Kokrajhar Sadar police station, but later arrested. Bandh total in Kokrajhar

The 24-hours Assam bandh called by All Koch Rajbongsi Students Union (Biswajit Roy faction) demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status and reconstruction of Kamatapur , disrupted normal life in Kokrajhar on Monday. 2,125 more teachers to be recruited

BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary has assured for appointing 2,125 teachers in elementary eduaction in four districts of BTAD that were selected by BTC elementary education advisery board in 2006-07,during a meeting held on Monday BTC Secretariat conference hall in Kokrajhar.
