Workshop on LGBT rights

A daylong workshop  to sensitized the Judicial members  on issue  affecting MSM, HIV and Human Rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender (LGBT) community was held on Staurday at Administrative  Training Institute, Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh. The event was organized  by  Mumbai based NGO  The Humsafar Trust in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh Authority.

Highlighting the gathering on objectives of the workshop, Advocacy Officer, THT, Tinesh Chopade   informed that workshop is to  create awareness about gender equality, setting up stage interaction between MSM community and authority beside addressing the  issues of Human Rights of sexual minority community  and to increase knowledge about needs of victims.

While stressing on the challenge being faced by the LGBT community in Indian society, he opined that most of the LGBT community usually have to deal with pressures from society to be heterosexual, to get married. Besides being isolated from the society they have to face discrimination in jobs and accommodation sometime that led to the depression and suicidal ideation.

Speaking on the occasion, Member Lawyers Collective-Mumbai, Suraj Sanap emphasized the participants on various Rights and provision for LGBT community under Indian Panel Code 377 along with Developments, Challenges and existing responses.

Earlier, District & Session Judge ,Yupia cum Member Secretary Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Service Authority (APSLSA) Budi Habung  lauded the team The Humsafar Trust for organizing such workshop in the state. ‘such information need to be discuss and have to hive proper platform so that people living with such situation would get proper assistance & support  both practically and Legaly’ said Member Secretary-APSLSA.

Arunachal students not to loose land

Boost for Arunachal education

The Arunachal Pradesh government on Tuesday released Rs 28.93 crore as state share against the various centrally sponsored schemes to boost the health and education sectors.  According to government sources, the amount includes Rs 2363.80 lakh under the Sarba Sikhya Abhiyan, Rs 343.21 lakh under RMSA, Rs. 124.00 lakh under NRHM, Rs 42.75 lakh under RUSA and Rs 19.10 lakh under AYUSH.The state cabinet decided to release state the amount in a time bound manner for smooth implementation of schemes. Both the departments would have to implement the schemes and to submit the utilization certificates.

Rajkhowa’s clarion call

The Arunachal Pradesh governor JP Rajkhowa urged the youth communities to carry forward the crusade against the growing menace in the north eastern state. In his address at the Solung Festival in Itanagar on Tuesday, Rajkhowa said only the youth fraternity has the strength enough the change the face of the beautiful state.Terming the land of rising sun as the country’s most beautiful state, he advised the people to document the colourful language, customs and traditions so that age-old heritage can be handed over from generation to generation.The Solung is the main socio-religious festival of ‘Adis’ community and is a manifestation of the ‘Adis’ festival cult.

Flash flood affects thousands in Namsai

Flood situation in the Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh is in grim situation due to incessant rain for the last couple of weeks. Atleast thousands of people from various villages in the district get affected. Rivers like Noa Dihing, Jengthu and Tenga Pani are flowing above the danger level.
