In a big development in the state’s political arena, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma joined BJP.

The power former minister in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet formally joined the saffron party after his initial meeting with BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday.

AASU leader quits, to join BJP

In a major development in the state’s political scenario, an senior AASU leader has quit the organization to join BJP.According to confirmation, AASU’s assistant general secretary Rituparna Baruah has put on his papers before general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi on Monday.Baruah, the close friend of Sarbananda Sonowal is all set to join BJP on Tuesday. Moreover, the party is likely to field him in Dibrugarh in the upcoming Lok Sabha poll.Baruah is the second senior AASU leader to have joined the BJP after Sonowal who is set to be BJP candidate from Lakhimpur.  

Threat to NE people in Delhi

In a disturbing news that sends shock and anger among the north eastern people in New Delhi, a local kangaroo court in the capital region has warned the people of the region of dire consequences if they fail to quit reas by the next three months.According to allegations, Munrika kangaroo court has warned the various landlords in New Delhi and the national capital region not to give any north east people on rent.

Rahul confirms visit

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi finally has confirmed his visit on February 25 and 26 to Assam to woo the voters.During his two days visit, Gandhi is scheduled to hold a road show from Tezpur to Nagaon. Apart the huge rally on youth and women empowerment, Gandhi is scheduled to meet the women Congress leaders and activists.

Cong prepared for huge rally

Assam Congress is gearing up for the women and youth empowerment rally in Guwahati slated for February 25.Senior party leaders at a meeting in Koinadhora on Sunday night resolved to make it a huge rally to counter the BJP rally attended by Narendra Modi.The meeting decided to ensure participation of more than 2 lakh people from across the state on that day.Much to their relief, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is understood to have agreed to attend the rally on February 25.   

Erosion in Jorhat AGP

Its an erosion in AGP. That too three months before the Lok Sabha polls. Senior AGP leader and former minister Hitendra Nath Goswami resigned from the party’s primary membership on Sunday.Hours after it, 28 local bodies in Jorhat deserted the party. They include three top central committee leaders. Goswami and his followers are believed to have been in touch with BJP. Notably, Goswami resigned from the party’s executive body in June alleging that the party leadership have been listening him. Since then, he has been retaining the party’s primary membership.

Businessman kidnapped

Suspected NDFB(S) militants kidnapped a businessman in Lakhimpur district on Sunday.Identified as Mukesh Agarwalla, he was kidnapped from Simluguri in Bihpuria in the morning at gunpoint.Rescue operation is underway. Police suspect it a handiwork of NDFB-S militants who have been unleashing terror in the entire districts for the last couple of years.

Horticulture college in Nalbari

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday laid the foundation stone of the state’s first ever horticulture college in at a function in Nalbari.In his address at the function presided over by agriculture minister Nilomoni Sendeka, Gogoi hoped that the college would help the state bring a boomtime in horticulture.Deka said that the government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore for the college and that the session of the college would begin soon. The college construction is expected to end by the next year.      

AGP leader quits party

AGP leader and former MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami on Sunday quit the regional party.Gowasmi, the three time party legislator from Jorhat Assembly constituency has already sent his resignation letter as the party’s primary member to president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.Goswami sent the resignation letter a day after he met the party members in Jorhat on Saturday. The development is a staggering blow for the regional party three months before the Lok Sabha polls.

Gecko seized, smuggler held

Despite stringent laws, wild animals are being smuggled from Guwahati. Basistha police arrested a person from Beltola area and seized two gecko snakes from his possession.Identified as Devendra Singh, the person from Manipur was held from a hotel after he received two gecko snakes on Saturday night.The geckos were seized hardly 12 hours after police seized from Koliabhumura area and held a youth from Manipur on way to Guwahati.

JFA urges Arunachal CM to intervene on journo-authority conflict
