Car sale ban: Whose initiative

She is none other than Rita Das Mozumdar who moved the court seeking its intervention to stop the sale of small four wheelers without crash-test clearance.

According to the advocate at the Gauhati High Court claims to have found that cars weighing up to 1,500 kg do not meet the specifications laid down by the Motor Vehicles Act. According to her, it amounts to a violation of the statute itself.

The 50 year old Mozumdar owns a Hyundai Eon, Maruti Suzuki Ritz and Mahindra Xylo, filed a PIL contending that small passenger cars manufactured do not conform to safety standards.
