Shun violence: Gogoi to insurgents

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday reiterated his appeal to the insurgent outfits to join the national mainstream.

Talking to reporters after paying his homage to the Dhemaji blast victims in Guwahati Gogoi said that August 15, 2004 is a black day in the history where innocent people, mostly, school children lost their lives.

He said the state mourning day should be an occasion for the insurgent outfits like ULFA-I and NDFB-S to pledge to shun the path of violence.

It was on August 15, 2004 where sixteen people, mostly, school children died at an explosion when they were participating in the Independence Day march past in Dhemaji.

Initially, ULFA denied its involvement and blamed it on the government. But later the outfit divided over the blamegame.
