Sixth biennial conference of Udalguri District Journalists’ Union concludes

“We, the scribes serving various dailies publishing from the state most often become soft target of anti social elements. The trend of attack on journalists has been going on since long and we express our serious concern for the government’s inability to apprehend and punish the culprits.” This was observed by JK Das, a senior journalist of Udalguri while addressing the congregation of the journalists of Udalguri district here today at Udalguri Press Club on the occasion of the martyr journalist Kamala Saikia’s 24th death anniversary which is observed as Solidarity Day across the state by the media persons. Addressing the assembly of the media persons held on the occasion of the solidarity day and the sixth biennial conference of Udalguri district Journalists’ Union, Das suggested the young generation of the scribes to stand unitedly, particularly in the BTAD region where attacks on mofussil reporters by the anti social elements are being noticed. Earlier to this, the open session of the conference chaired by outgoing president Dhiren Baishya was also addressed by Gautam J. Talukdar, Dilip Baruah, Gunjit Das, Tarun Azad Deka, among many others. On the occasion, Bapan Sarmah of Tangla was awarded the Hem Chandra Talukdar Rural Reporting Award for 2014.

 

The open session was chaired by Dhiren Baishya, president of the UDJU while objectives were explained by Narayan Deka, outgoing secretary of the organization.Earlier to this, the daylong programme got underway with the UDJU flag hoisting by Dhiren Baishya, president of the organization while the tributes to martyr Kamala Saika and former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was initiated by Atul Nath, adviser of UDJU and Pradip Kr. Talukdar, president of Udalguri Press Club respectively. A drawing competition among the school children was also held on the occasion and winners were given away attractive prizes. A 40 member new UDJU committee was also formed with Jayanta K Das as president and Dilip Baruah as secretary on the occasion.
