Nearly three hundred people of Kalaigaon and neighboring villages assembled at the P.W.D inspection bunglow on March 28, at 11 am to attend a small ceremony to express gratitude to D.N.Hazarika, former circle officer, of Kalaigaon , who had been recently transferred from Kalaigaon Revenue Circle. Representatives from forty organizations and institutions attended in large numbers to appreciate his sincere service and dedication to public welfare activities.
Kamal Prasad Sharma, Mauzadar,Kalaigaon in his speech, welcomed Hazarika & people present and read out the citation before felicitating him with Gamocha and Xarai followed by other forty organizations and institutions. It is to be mentioned that, Hazarika,who had joined at Kalaigaon in 2007,became a most popular officer, for his clean image and simple living. Numerous cultural and sports events along with other developmental activities could draw public attention. It was, Hazarika,who had taken initiative for the establishment of the ‘Kanak Lata Das, Biodiversity Park” for the conservation of Flora and Fauna of Kalaigaon. Nonagenarian Freedom Fighter Pani Ram Das had donated 35 bighas of land for the project. People of Kalaigaon also appreciated Hazarika for the establishment of a Public library , a Public playground named “Gandhi Bakari” at Kalaigaon Circle Office. Moreover at his personal interest more than eight pythons and several Barn Owls were rescued to be released in wildlife santuaries. Several distinguished persons, including ,prominent freedom fighter and social worker Pani Ram Das,Mahendra Saikia ,Sukleswar Deka,Arun Sharma(President AASU) spoke a few words on the occasion and thanked him for his never ending mission of charity. On his farewell speech D.N.hazarika, thanked people of Kalaigaon for giving him moral support in all the activities.The meeting was presided over by social worker Kami Ram Saharia .
Noted astronomy advocate of NE and secretary of Pragjyotish Amateur Astronomers Association, Guwahati Planetarium Uday Narayan Deka breathed his last in the ICU in International Hospital, Guwahati on Thursday at 12.20 am.
