The 12th annual conference of Udalguri district ABWWF (All Bodo Women’s Welfare Federation ) will be held at Kabirali near Kalaigaon on March 26 and 27 2009 with various programme.The conference will significant on the backdrop of the ensuing LS polls, as there would be two Bodo political organizations namely BPF (Hagrama) and BPPF (Rabiram) fighting each other. The conference will be inaugurated with the opening of the main gate on 26 March at 10 am to be followed by the inauguration of the delegate session at 11.30 am. The second days programme on March 27 will commence with the hoisting of organizational flag at 6.30 am by Bibimai Daimari, president of Udalguri district ABWWF. Mitha Ram Basumatari, EM,BTC will release the souvenir at 8.30 am.The open session at 12 noon will be inaugurated by Rihan Daimari,Minister PHE,Assam.Several dignitaries including Maheswar Baro, MLA, Kalaigaon; Ramela Islari,president ABWWF, Assam; Pramila Rani Brahma,Minister, Agriculture,Assam beside others.The conference will conclude at 6 pm on March 27 with the cultural night. A strong reception committee with Maheswar Baro, MLA, Kalaigaon as president; Barendra Narzari as working president and Khagen Baro as secretary has been working for the success of the conference.Harendra Baro,publicity secretary of the reception committee has appealed all kindly to offer help and cooperation on the occasion.

Newly wed burnt alive in Udalguri

In a very tragic and barbaric incident, Puspanjali Das (19)wife of Chandan Debnath of Thakuriapara village under Bhergaon sub-division in Udalguri district has been burnt down alive on Saturday noon for non-payment of marriage dowry. The incident has shocked the district. The lady was put in a sac before thrown in a fire lighted in a heap of hay. Puspanjali was married to Chandan just three months bac. Narayan Debnath, father-in-law of Puspanjali has been arrested while trying to flee but all the family members managed to flee before being caught. Pranjal Bora, SDPO, Bhergaon told Assam Times that none involved in the incident would be spared.
