Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday made it plain and simple that his government wants 2014 voter list as one of the supportive documents to update the national registrar of citizens.
Responding to the legislators who asked him to clear his position, Gogoi said that the list would be required if the documents earlier announced by the Supreme Court are not available for an indigenous citizen.
He said that his government has already moved the Supreme Court for consideration which has not so far rejected the affidavit.

The Medical Council of India has not cancelled the recognitions to the Jorhat Medical College and Barpeta Medical College. This was what health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday. Addressing a press conference in Dispur, Dr Sarma said that the report in the section of media was false and based not on facts. He further said that Jorhat Medical College will begin the post graduate course from this session. He said the medical colleges are now free to hike the number of seats from this session.

In a most bizarre incident that tocuhes off a seismic wave of anger, a woman died after she was repeated raped and tortured for 36 hours in Dhubri district. The Assam government is yet to decide on the permanent memorial in the name of Khagen Mahanta.
Talking to reporters in the sidelines of the funeral function on Friday evening, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that the decision would be taken due course of time.
