The wreckage of the Pawan Hans helicopter Tirap Deputy Commissioner Kamalesh Joshi was found at a remote area of Arunachal Pradesh where it crash landed on Tuesday.
The rescue operation made with three choppers along with a Sukhoi Jet locate the wreckage at Thinsa in the wee hours tracing a phone calls from Joshi to his wife at 2-10 in the afternoon. Senior officials arrived in the crash site and recovered the decomposed bodies in the morning.
The chopper went missing on Tuesday on its way to Khunsa from Longding. The last contact was established at 11-30 with Mohanbari airport. Initially, the search operation was concentrated at an area near Dalom where a section of local residents claimed to have heard the sound of a huge explosion in the sky.
But rescuers failed to trace it even after deployment of a Sukhoi Jet along with three other helicopters during the last six days.
Amid tight security polling in the Guwahati civic bodies begins across the city. Over 7 lakh voters are free to decide on the fate of172 ward councillors along with 356 area sabha candidates. The polling started at 7 in the morning at 862 stations. Assamtimes team came to see huge queue of voters in Beltola, Paltanbazar, Chandmari areas even before the voting started. Preparations are complete to ensure smooth conduct of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election on Wednesday.There will be 15 zonal magistrates and 72 sector officers monitoring the situation across the city in order to maintain law and order during the election. PP Varma will be new chief secretary. “Today I am making it public. He will take charge after Das retires on the last day of this month," Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters in Guwahati Varma, a 1978 batch IAS officer, is currently the Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Social Welfare and Public Health Engineering Departments. The incumbent Naba Kumar Das, a 1976 batch IAS officer, will retire on June 30.
