Good news for 6 communities

Tai Ahom, Koch Rajbanshi, Moran, Mutocks  along with two others are likely to get ST status.

The good news for the six communities has come from the Centre when the six ethnic community leaders hunkered down with Union tribal affairs minister Juel Ornam in New Delhi on Thursday.

Flanked by sports minister Sarbabanda Sonowal, Ornam said the Centre will have to change the modalities in the soon to be held cabinet meeting.

After the seal of approval from the cabinet, the modalities would be ready. It would take two or three months to complete the entire proceedings.

Later the delegation talked to union home minister Rajnath Singh at his official residence.

The move assumed significance despite the escalating protest of the existing ST people.

The other two are tea tribes and Sutiya not chutia. Ahom ,  Koch and Sutiya were ruling class of Assam during medievel period. Next time please name the ''other two'' as sentiments are related to it.

BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday deplored that lack of vision and an able leadership have been preventing Assam from developing on all fronts.Addressing a huge rally in Guwahati, the Gujarat Chief Minister said that tea industry is an energy booster, tourism industry is full of potential. But the state has been lagging behind.“Had there been an able leadership, the face of Assam would have chaged long ago,” said Modi.He said, “Vajpayee government gave the state a huge Rs 40,000 crore package. We would give more if we are voted to power.”

He said that Prime Minister must answer.
The government has no dearth of schemes. But these have not percolate benefits for the poor people, said Narendra Modi.Addressing a huge rally at the Veterinary College Playground on Saturday, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate said that if MNREGA is there why lakhs of unemployed people are there in the state? He said that these schemes are really not meant for the general people.

BJP state president Sarbananda Sonowal said that his party is the only option left for the people to get rid of the UPA-misgovernance that crippled the entire country.In his welcome address at the huge rally before being addressed by prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Sonowal said that BJP will chance the face of Assam and north east if voted to power.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has landed Guwahati. The flight carrying the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate from Imphal landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at 2 in the afternoon.After being received by MP Bijaya Chakrabartty, he straightly flew to Sarusajai to be received by state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal, MPs Ramen Deka, Bijaya Chakrabartty, Rajen Gohain along with senior leader SS Ahluwaliah who is looking after the entire arrangement.Then he left for Khanapara to address the huge rally at the veterinary Playground.     
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that he had nothing to be worried about Narendra Modi who is holding a huge rally in Guwahati on Saturday.Talking to reporters in Sivasagar in the sidelines of a function, Gogoi said that the huge rally in Khanapara will hardly help BJP woo the voters.He said that the people are aware of the country’s political scenario and UPA performance. “Yes, let them hold the huge rally in Guwahati. Let them pull the crowd. But the people will vote us,” said the Chief Minister.
A KMSS-sponsored protest against the alleged horse trading in the recent Rajya Sabha polls touched down a new low when six activists of the organization staged a naked dharna in Dispur on Saturday.But the Dispur policemen guarding the state secretariat detained the protestors on public allegations of nefarious protest that forced hundreds of people on the streets to avoid them.With a banner, the protesters arrived in Dispur nakedly and started staging dharna forcing the people on the GS Road to avoid the spot.The peasant body warned of an intensified protest against horse trading in the Rajya Sabha polls where Congress and its coaltion partner BPF won all the three seats.
