NTPC Salakati workers boycot duty

The constrctual worker and laboureres engaged with the Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project Corporation (BNTPC) situated at Salakati in Kokrakjhar carried out a 72 hours boycotted duties starting from Monday morning and stayed away from duty for negligence of local candidate appointment in the project by the NTPC authority. 

The strike was held under the banner of Salakati Social Action Committee whch has been demanding for employment for the local people in the Group B, C and D since long time.

The project that was approved in the year 2008 a cost of Rs. 4,720.40 crore with the total of 750 Mega Watt, three units with 250 MW each. The foundation stone of the project was laid by the Prime Minister of India Dr. Man Mohan Singh on January 14, 2006 as a gift to newly formed Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). The project which is built at the old Bongaigaon Thermal Power Station (BTPS) site in the district in an area of 894 hectare of land is progressing.

Derhasat Basumatary, President of the Salakati Social Action Committee said the organization has been demanding for employment for the local people in the Group B, C and D since a long time but the authority is betraying, the NTPC authority has have not maintain the guide line of the project agreement by the state government, where large number of candidate has been appointed in the project depriving the local people from outside of the state.  

On the other hand the Group General Manager - U Chakrabarty said that as per agreement guidelines by the state government, NTPC and local authorities the NTPC has been recruiting for various post posts. 

He also mentioned that a meeting with BTC administration and NTPC would be held at New Delhi regarding the demands.

Later, the Salakati Social action Committee has suspended the 72 hours strike after receiving a invitation to participate in the meeting.

 A link man of NDFB-Songbijit faction was arrested by security forces belonging to police and army from Saraibil under Gossaigaon police station on Thursday in Kokrajhar district.  Getting input about working of link man in the area, a joint team of security forces launched operation and managed to arrest the link man.
