Rail blockade in Raha

Movement of all trains came to a grinding halt on Thursday when local residents in large number blocked the rails in Raha demanding the proposed AIIMS in central part of the state.

Raising slogans demanding an immediate shift in the AIIMS venue, the protesters squatted on the rail tracks at 8 in the morning forcing several trains to stop for three hours.

Later the blockade was called off with an warning that it would resume if the demand fails to reach the authorities.

Ram Madhav visits Raha

Ram Madhav, National General Secretary, BJP and Ajay Jamwal, General Secretary, BJP  for NE states today visited Raha to take stock of the security scene ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Raha on April 8. Both the leaders were welcomed by Raha BJP nominated candidate Dimbeswar Das and Raha town committee chairman Dhruba Das. The Nagaon BJP MP Rajen Gohain also accompanied them. NH37 blocked demanding AIIMS

Vehicular traffic on Nagaon-Guwahati Highway was today blocked by a large number of residents of Raha and social activists belonging to different organizations and students' body including AASU, AJYCP, KMSS, ATSU, Raha units  at Raha chariali  for about 2 hours demanding the proposed AIIMS in Assam here. Road mishap kills two

Two men  died on the spot after the Bajaj Pulsar bike (AS15D-4296)   they were riding on reportedly hit a parked trailer vehicle on NH 37 at Raha on Thursday morning at around 3.30 am.  The deceased identified as Bidyut Saikia (23), a resident of Tulashimukh , Nagaon and Nipan Bhagawati (26), of Koroioni Bamungaon, Barhampur, Nagaon were on their way to Nagaon from Guwahati when the accident took place.

Former CM Prafulla Mahanta, his son wounded in road accident

Former Assam AGP chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and his son Subham were injured in a road accident at Bebejia in Nagaon district on Tuesday evening. According to information, Mahanta and his youngest son Shuvam Kashyap suffered minor injuries but his PSO Dinesh Sing was critically wounded when his bulletproof car in which he was traveling hit a parked truck on the national highway 37 at about 7 pm. KMSS dharna in Raha

Hundreds of KMSS activists hit the roads in Raha on Monday alleging rampant corruption in NREGA, NFSA and IAY scheme. Led by KMSS,Raha unit president,Amrit Changmai, the protestors staged dharna in front of the Raha revenue circle officer’s Office alleging rampant corruption by the  government officials of Nagaon district. Hundreds of students of Raha college appearing for the BA fifth semester honors examinations under Guwahati University that commenced on Tuesday faced inconvenience at the examination hall as the college authority failed to supply them the question papers of five subjects. Raha TET teachers stage sit in protest

The TET teachers here today staged a three hour-long sit in protest in front of the Block Elementary Education Office, Kapili Bock, Raha demanding resolution to various issues faced by TET qualified teachers. The sit-in protest started from 11 am under the aegis of Kapili Block  Primary TET Passed Teachers'  Association.
