Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

GUWAHATI: For the first time in the history of Assam, the state government tabled an e-budget for 2018-19 in the assembly on Monday. Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tabled the budget, doling out many promises a couple of months before the state rural body polls. In his speech presenting the Rs 2149.04 cr deficit budget, Sarma promised three new bridges over the Brahmaputra apart from three more medical colleges not to speak of the 5,000 HS toppers who would get scooty in this fiscal. RIMA VUSHUM AIAZWL: Finally the Centre steps in to mend the widening differences between Assam and Mizoram amid an escalating tension along the inter state border. The home ministry has asked both the north eastern state to ensure peace along the border area a week after a group of Mizo students clashed with Assam Police. In an order, the Centre has asked for reports from both Dispur and Aiazwl detailing about the incidents along woit the measures to defuse the tension.   Both the states have put in place a mammoth security along the border to avert any clash in the area.
Kokrajhar: In a major setback for NDFB-S, a Myanmar trained rebel of the outfit has surrendered before the authorities on Sunday. Identified as Rindao Brahma alias B Ringhav alias Mejem, the self styled Lance Corporal laid down his arms before Serfanguri police in Kokrajhar in the morning who hailed from Ramfalbil Kapurgaon village. GUWAHATI: The stage is set to table the Assam state budget for 2018-19. Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is tabling the budget at 10-30 in the morning on Monday.   Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Sunday, Sarma said this year’s budget has some marked differences in terms of presentations and allocations of funds under the various heads.

KARIMGANJ: In a bid to deescalate the tension along the Assam-Mizoram border, the Mizoram government has proposed a fence mending talks with the Assam counterpart saying it to be the best possible way.  In a letter addressed to Dispur, Mizoram Chief Secretary Arvind Ray proposed a talk between the deputy commissioners of Kolasib and Halakandi within this week.    The proposal comes hours after Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called up his Mizoram counterpart Lalthanhawala where the duo agreed to stay away from the dispute site to defuse the tension.    But the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) has been refusing to relent since they want to build up a rest house in the...
RAJESH MANDALDHEKIAJULI: The Dhekiajuli police have arrested a 23 year old youth from Moinajuli area two weeks after he raped a minor girl in the area who has been undergoing treatment at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital in Tezpur. Identified as Montu Mushahary, he was arrested after the parents of the victim filed a formal complaint at Dhrkuajuli police station.The incident took place on February 25.
