Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Congress has announced its candidates for three assembly seats where bypolls are to be held on September 13. The AICC poll panel has announced the names of Arun Dulla Majumdar in Silchar. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday announced a thorough probe into the allegations of police inaction in the Priya Basumatary killing case six days back. According to allegation, while Priya was killed on August 20 afternoon, the police never went to Dwimuguri along the Indo-Bhutan border where the murder took place. Only the villagers recovered her body next day and handed it over to the police at Salbari. Gogoi said that Priya was not a police informer.
 The Assam government has received a huge fund of Rs 520 crore from the Centre to modernize police since 2004. The disclosure was made in the Assam Assembly on Monday by forest and environment minister Rockybul Hussain. According to Hussain, "Out of the total amount, Rs 68.99 crore have been spent on purchasing of vehicles and Rs 92.49 crore were used for arms and ammunition." Flood fury worsens on Monday as more and more areas in several districts have come under the surging waters.  The Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been flowing above the danger level. The water levels are likely to rise following the incessant rains in Arunachal Pradesh during the last 48 hours.      The death toll has gone up to 7 with two more deaths in Morigaon apart from one each in Lakhimpur, Dhubri, Nalbari, Golaghat and Barpeta.  Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has directed the revenue and disaster management department to rescue the people trapped in the current wave of flood. Gogoi has further directed the department to gear up relief and rehabilitation of the flood affected people on a war-footing. The CBI team probing the multi crore Saradha scam is believed to have received some stunning revelations when it interrogated Manoranjana Singh on Sunday. Singh, who took Rs 25 crore from Sudipta Sen to set up the Frontier TV in Guwahati, was quizzed at CBI’s Salt Lake office in the evening. Sinh, the estranged wife of Matang Singh was interrogated in full view of Sudipta Sen who disclosed all these transaction in a purported letter to the authorities. The country’s premier investigating agency is expected to interrogate her again at any time along with a few other political leaders.         
 Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has directed the police to launch a massive manhunt to arrest the killers of the class IX student. The teenager was shot dead by NDFB or National Democratic Front of Bodoland ultras in the presence of her parents at Dwimugri village under Runikhata police station in Chirang district as the militants suspected her of being a police informer. The police admitted that the body was retrieved at least 24 hours after she was killed and blamed remoteness of the village and non-cooperation by villagers for the delay. Notably, she was killed on August 20 while her body was retrieved in the evening the next day.
