Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

The flood toll has gone up to 14 during the last three days. The toll in Goalpara alone stands at 8 after cloudburst wreaked havoc in the Assam-Meghalaya border on Monday. Of them, 4 were women. Several people have been remaining traceless in the district. Amid simmering protest over the arrest of Jaiklong Brahma, the Amnesty International India has asked the Assam government to release the Kokrajhar journalist and guarantee him a fair trial meeting international standards. Ten HS and HSLC toppers this year are all set to leave for USA on a 12 day educational tour next month. Courtesy Dispur. The Assam government is making all arrangement to take the toppers to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).According to an official statement, the entire tour will be sponsored by the 'Deba Kumar Bora Memorial NASA Visit 2014' for the first three HSLC toppers and first position holder of 12th standard in each of Arts, Science and Commerce streams.During the 12 days tour, the students would be taken to John F Kennedy Space Centre, University of Florida, AT&T Bell laboratory, Benz manufacturing factory, and visit Washington and New York cities. 
There seems to be no let up in the flood scene on Tuesday that ravaged four districts forcing the authorities to deploy 11 NDRF teams comprising 550 personnel in relief and rescue operations. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has cancelled his Germany visit. This is for the second time, the chief minister has skipped his proposed visit. He was scheduled to visit Germany from September 28 to October 5. Although it is attributed to flood, sources closed to Gogoi told Assam Times that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s simultaneous visit has forced Gogoi to cancel his tour this time.
