It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Fraud in Assam police dragnet

Guwahati police got a dreaded fraud in its custody who duped many people in Assam taking crores of rupees promising benefits from the Prime Minister’s Office.A special team of CID has been interrogating the fraud to extract revelations.Another police team is in Delhi to get another fraud in its custody in a day or two. Known as Sudipta Chatterjee and Snehendu Jana, the duo allegedly cheated many people of crores of rupees under the fake banner of Prime Minister’s Office. Delhi Police caught the duo. recently.

Amit Shah coming in April

BJP president Amit Shah will be on a week long tour to Assam in April to study the party position a year ahead of the assembly polls.Talking to Assam Times, senior party leaders said that  apart from Assam, Shah is scheduled to tour the other north eastern states.Shah is keeping April 25 and 26 for Assam where he is set to review the party’s poll prospect. During his trip, the BJP president is set expected to strike pre poll alliance with other regional political parties.

Media Fellowships on TB Awareness

The State TB Cell, Assam in association with Guwahati Press Club has invited proposals for two media fellowships on Tuberculosis (TB) from mid-career journalists of the State for a period of two months (April and May 2015).Each selected journalist will be given Rs 20, 000/- (Rupees twenty thousand only) as the stipend for the entire period. CBI probe into Farid case

The Nagaland government has recommended CBI probe into the mob lynching of Sayeed Farid Khan.The government has written to the country’s premier investigation agency seeking a thorough probe into the bizarre incident where  rape accused who hails from Assam was lynched by a violent mob on the street after being dragged out of the Dimapur Central Jail on March 25.Police have caught over 30 goons in this connection apart from disciplinary action against the jail authority.Various parties and organizations have called it a conspiracy against the non Naga people in Dimapur.

MULTA spreading network!

Despite round-the-clock vigil, Islamist extremists are moving in different parts of the state without any hindrance. Some sensational revelations have surfaced when police interrogated two MULTA insurgents a day after they were caught in Goalpara on Thurday.Sources told Assam Times the MULTA is spreading its initial network in lower Assam to be expanded to other parts of the state in near future.
