It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

A section of school teachers will not receive their salaries untill and unless the Centre releases the fund.Education minister Sarat Borkotoky told reporters in Guwahati on Sunday that these teachers would get their salaries only after receipt of fund from the Centre.

A long march to Dispur by the agitating special police officers is believed to have forced the authorities to cut short the journey of two Guwahati-bound passenger trains on Sunday. The Lumding-Alipurduar train via Guwahati will cut short its journey at Hojai. On the other hand, the Lumding-Guwahati train has refused to proceed beyond Lanka.According to allegations, the agitating police officers had booked many compartments of the two Guwahati bound trains on Sunday.     The SPOs were waiting to board on the trains to arrive in Guwahati to register their protest alleging non receipt of due treatment from the governnment.

The promotional fare stands at 900.All carriers across the country deploy at least 10 per cent of their capacity on remote routes.The airline will fly daily from Guwahati to Imphal from June 25. To celebrate the launch of the new route, AirAsia India is offering inaugural fares from as low as Rs 900 from Guwahati to Imphal and vice versa.The offer provides a four-day window for booking of the tickets. The travel can be under taken from June 25 to May 31 next year.
Assam will not bear the extra burden of more Bangladeshi people after the implementation of the Indo-Bangla land deal. This was what Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Anjan Dutta said on Sunday.  Talking to reporters in Guwahati, Dutta said an APCC delegation will soon meet prime minister Narendra Modi asking him not to allow the state bear the extra burden of Bangladeshi people.
AJYCP president Manoj Baruah has tendered his resignation paving the way for Ranjit Changmai to take the rein of the organization on Sunday.Baruah formally resigned at the special session organized at the Hotel Alankar in Guwahati. Baruah will soon join BJP. Changmai will formally take over as the party president untill further arrangement.       
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi comes down heavily on Narendra Modi alleging that the prime minister did not raise the influx issue when he was on his visit to Dhaka which ends on Sunday.In his twitter, Gogoi said if Modi and BJP want Assam immigrant free why he did not talk to the Bangladesh prime minister.Taking a dig at AIUDF, Gogoi AIUDF and BJP have confused the people.  
Terror tentacle spreading in the north eastern region when suspected NSCN(K) backed by other insurgent outfits of the region unleashed a reign of terror by tagetting security forces in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday.A huge group of around 50 gunmen opened fire at an Assam Rifles camp in Lazu area in Tirap district early in the morning forcing the army personnel to retaliate. The insurgents fled under cover of darkness. There is no report of any casualty.Later police recovered over 70 empty cartridges of AK-47 rifle along with several bombs.The gun firing took place four days after 18 army personnel were killed at an ambush by NSCN-K in in Manipur's Chandel district. 
At a time when the special police officers have been agitating in Dima Hasao district alleging non receipt of salaries for several months, the Assam government has decided to hike the salaries of the home guards. Disclosing this official sources told Assam Times that the home guards’ salary have been hiked to Rs 7,500 salary per month—Rs 3,000 more than the existing amount.
