Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

A Central government team is supervising the efforts to contain the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis.vaccination, distribution of mosquito nets, insecticides are being intensified to stop further spread of the disease.Health Department has taken a set of measures. These include reserving five to six beds in each district hospital and five beds in the medical colleges for the affected patients. All districts are ensuring proper investigations and treatment with diagnostic kits provided to the hospitals. Adequate medicines were available, awareness meetings were being held in all districts, medicated mosquito nets were being provided in the rural areas. Regular fogging is underway.
Dispur has received a notice from the Supreme Court on a petition by CBI challenging the Gauhati High Court’s direction to it to take up 481 cases relating to chit fund scam.A Division bench comprising Justice TS Thakur and Justice C Nagappan heard the CBI before allowing the plea.The High Court is free to monitor 15 cases, which were initially handed over to the CBI.CBI, said the agency lacks manpower and cannot handle the burden of probing all 481 FIRs lodged in the State.The Gauhati High Court had in January asked Dispur to hand over all the cases relating to various chit fund companies and non-banking financial companies (NBFC) to the CBI. 
The killer Japanese Encephalitis continues to wreak havoc in the state claiming at least 66 people this year.Among the worst affected districts were Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Dhemaji and Kamrup.According to confirmed reports, severity is lesser this year than the previous years forcing the government to take it very seriously.
Guwahati Press Club has urged the city police commissioner to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at Ambari locality for better surveillance. It argues that besides the press club, Ambari has number public institutions namely Ravindra Bhawan, District Library, State Museum etc, where hundreds gathered every day for various activities.“So the area should be brought under regular surveillance, where as there is no CCTV camera in this locality,” said a memorandum of the press club, which was handed over to the police commissioner Mukesh Agarwal today afternoon.The memorandum also added that incidents of bike & car lifting in Ambari area was increasing in the recent past. Bijoy Krishna Handique,  former union minister and Congress leader from Assam died at the Jorhat medical college on Sunday. He was suffering from respiratory ailments and admitted to the hospital Saturday evening. The only son of late Krishna Kanta Handique, the famous scholar and founding Vice Chancellor of the Gauhati University, Handique represented the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency for six consecutive terms since 1991. Handique held several portfolios in the union government. He was also a member of Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1985.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who visited the Jorhat Medical College on Saturday has led the state in condoling the death of Handique.
