ANLA’s C-in-C and six others nabbed

Meghalaya’s militant group A’chik National Liberation Army (ANLA)s C-in-C and six other cadres of the outfit were apprehended by security forces in Guwahati, capital city of Assam on Tuesday, officials said.

The militants were nabbed from Guwahati railway station, Panbazar and Paltan Bazar area in the city.

Following a tip-off, Guwahati city police crime branch had launched operation at the areas and nabbed ANLA’s C-in-C Suber Sangma, its Physical and Drill Instructors George Sangma, Buttu Sangma and cadres Emprosh Arengh, Alanson Sangma, George Sangma and Samir Kumar Rai.

Guwahati city police commissioner Mukesh Agarwal said that, C-in-C of the Meghalaya’s outfit group Suber Sangma hailed from Karbi Anglong district of Assam, while its Physical and Drill Instructors George Sangma from Meghalaya’s Mendi Pathar Kharkutta area and Buttu Sangma from Baithalangso Satgaon area in Karbi Anglong district.

Other cadres of the outfit group George Sangma hailed from Baithalangso Melapara Satgaon area, Alanson Sangma from Baithalangso Magurmari area, Emprosh Arengh from meghalaya’s Dainadubi Namerin area and Samir Kumar Rai from Dudhnoi Banophaphul area in Goalpara district.

“George Sangma, Alanson Sangma and Buttu Sangma were came from Hojai in Nagaon district to Guwahati by Nagaland Express, while C-in-C of ANLA Suber Sangma and others had came from Goalpara to Guwahati in a Hyundai Santro vehicle bearing registration no AS-18D-0351 to meet the cadres who came from Hojai,” the Guwahati city police commissioner said.

During interrogation, Suber revealed that, Hersing D’shira alias Mikkin Achik is the Chairman of the outfit.

Suber Sangma also revealed that, the militant group have 50-60 nos of AK series rifles, 4 nos of M-40 rifles, 4 nos of M-16 rifles, 10 nos of 9mm pistols, 12 nos of point 32 revolvers, 15 nos of grenades and large quantity of ammunition at the camp in Garo Hills in Meghalaya bordering with Bangladesh.

The top police official said that, the militant group has active in Karbi Anglong, Goalpara, Kamrup (Rural) districts in Assam and Garo Hills in Meghalaya.

A newly-wed couple was killed in a lightning strike and a body found in Nagaon districton May 16, officials said. Nagaon SP Nitul Gogoi said, the couple died Sunday when lightning struck their home in village Bokulguri under Kampur PS in Nagaon district.
