Top NDFB(S) leader held

Security forces on Monday had apprehended a top Bodo militant, allegedly one of the masterminds of the tribal massacre  from a remote village in Assam's Chirang district, officials said.

Following a tip-off, army and police had jointly launched operation at Tukrajhar village in the BTAD district and nabbed the top militant of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit) faction group.

Defence spokesman based in Guwahati said that, the nabbed militant Sumanta Basumutary alias B Sinaihang is the self styled Joint Secretary, Home of the newly formed central council of the outfit group.

"Sinaihang is a trained member of 42nd batch of NDFB(S) in Bhutan and close with the new vice president of the group G Bidai and is believed to be the brain behind the killing of tribal on December 23, 2014 in Kokrajhar district, " the Defence spokesman said.

"After the tribal massacre he fled to Bangalore and had recently returned to Chirang," the Defence spokesman said.

In 2014, NDFB(S) militants had killed at least 80 Adivasi people in Kokrajhar, Sonitpur and Chirang district.

On other hand, troops of army, police, CRPF, SSB had launched massive operation against the militants along the Indo-Bhutan border.

Flood scene grave; 3 lakh people affected

Two MTFA ultra held in Kokrajhar

Security forces on Saturday had apprehended two militants belonging to Muslim Tiger Force of Assam (MTFA) in Assam's Kokrajhar district, officials said.Defence spokesman based in Guwahati said that, based on intelligence input, army and police had jointly launched operation at Chokhilepara area in the BTAD district and nabbed the militant duo.The nabbed militants were identified as Nur Islam and Md. Asarful Islam and recovered two 7.62mm pistols, 17 rounds live ammunition of AK-47, a MTFA identity card and other war like stores in possession from them.

IAF jawan commits suicide

A jawan was committed suicide himself at Air force station in Digaru of Kamrup (Metro) district in Assam on Thursday, officials said.Kundan Singh, a TPL jawan , engaged in the security duty at the air force station had committed suicide himself with his service pistol on Thursday morning.The jawan hailed from Jharkhand and his body was sent for postmortem to hospital.

42 new BOPs in Arunachal & Sikkim: Rijiju

Five injured in militant attack in Garo Hills

Two militants of anti-talk faction group of Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) were killed in an encounter with the police in Karbi Anglong district, Assam on May 19, officials said. Several arms-ammunitions were seized from the slain militants. Couple killed in lightning

A newly-wed couple was killed in a lightning strike and a body found in Nagaon districton May 16, officials said. Nagaon SP Nitul Gogoi said, the couple died Sunday when lightning struck their home in village Bokulguri under Kampur PS in Nagaon district.
