An uneasy calm grips Lumding railway station where the northeast frontier railway authorities have halted several passenger trains for repairing of tracks.

Thousands of passengers have been waiting for the trains to leave for the destination from Sunday morning. Station officials told Assam Times that emergency repairing of the tracks are in progress and it would be completed by Monday.

“From Monday the trains would be able to leave the station,” said the station officials.

“We don’t understand why the train is not allowed to move. We have been waiting here for the last 24 hours without basic facilities,” said Tarali Saikia who was on her way to Guwahati on the Tinsukia-Lalgarh Awadh Assam Express.

Another passenger who is on the way to Guwahati on the Dibrugarh-Rangiya passenger train said,”I doubt the reason is different. Normally the Indian railways avoide activities like this. We are running out of patience.”

Same situation prevails situation is Lanka where several trains are refusing the leave much to the inconveniance of around 1000 passengers.

Sources told Assam Times that the real story is different. The agitating special police officers’ long march to Dispur by the Guwahati bound trains has forced the authorities cut short the journey of several trains on Sunday. The SPOs are preparing to stage fast unto death in the city from Tuesday alleging govenrment’s failure to keep its promises.
