Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has reiterated its old demand for a special law to protect the media persons on duty across the country. The television media forum argued that the scribes, both from print and electronic media should get the protection under the special laws in the line of physicians on duty.
“We have observed with dismay that more journalists today face physical attacks when they are on risky assignments around the country. Unless the media persons on duty are ensured with justice, they may opt for soft issues resulting in wrecks for critical journalism,” said a statement issued by EMFA president Nava Thakuria.
The media forum meanwhile condemned an incident of assaults to Partha Pratim Saikia of DY365 at Ganeshguri locality yesterday midnight. According to the FIR lodged by the scribe at Dispur police station, Partha was attacked by some unruly youths when he along with his colleague was with official assignment. The police have detained one Bikas Saikia who was intoxication and tried to hit the camera of the news channel at the location. The EMFA urged the authority to take proper actions against the culprits under the law of the land.
