Wild elephant killed

In another tragic incident following the deaths of 5 people in Udalguri and Baksa districts, a 35 years old female wild elephant was found dead in Bhootiachang tea garden today morning. Veterinary doctor doing postmortem confirmed poisoning as the cause of death.

Koch Rajbongshi body opposes separate Bodo state

The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Yuva Chatra Sanmiloni has strongly opposed the demand of a separate Bodo state. Nature lovers rejoice at the safe return of the stray rhino to Orang NP

Nature loving people of Darrang and Udalguri districts have rejoiced at the safe return of the seven years old rhino,which had strayed away from Orang National Park on December 12. After traveling a distance of nearly 80 km, finally it returned safe to Orang National Park in the cover of darkness on December 13. Attempt to tranquilize stray rhino failed

The 7 years old rhino,which had been straying away from Orang National Park yesterday,finally took shelter in the village Bijulibari (Borkola) under Kalaigaon police station on the very morning of December 13 at 4 am.When the attempt to redirect it to Orang NP had failed,the forest and WWF authorities tried to tranquilize it at Borkola village.But before the belated attempt had been made to tranquilize the rhino ,the panicked rhino ran away to another place, Abhoypukhuri,8 km away from Borkola.It needs mention that thousands of villagers had assembled at the site which made the rhino panicked.Later it further moved away north towards Kabirali via Bananguri. Pregnant female wild elephant electrocuted at Bhutiachang TE in Udalguri

Nature lovers have expressed serious concern at the electrocution of another female wild elephant ,who had been carrying a near matured calf at Bhutiachang TE on the night of November 4/09.According to information received a 14 years old female wild elephant was electrocuted at section No. 6 of Bhutiachang TE.It has been learned that a herd of wild elephants numbering 25-30 had been seen roaming in the locality for a few days. Unfortunately, a female elephant got stuck to low lying high voltage electric line causing her instant death.
