25th Convocation of Gauhati University

The 25th Convocation of Gauhati University held at the university campus in Guwahati on Monday where Assam governor PB Acharya who is also the VC presented degrees to altogether 1050 students and scholars. 

Altogether 123 scholars were given PhD degrees, six M Phil and 921 students were given post graduate and under graduate degrees in an august gathering. 

Addressing the gathering, the PB Acharya lauded the role of Gauhati University in creating a knowledge based society. 

Being the premier seat of learning in the city which is a gate way to the South East Asian Nations, the Governor urged the university fraternity to be in the fore-front to interact with leading universities of Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Myanmar, China, Bhutan and Bangladesh. 

He also advocated for inter-university interaction which would lead to promoting goodwill with the neighbouring countries. 

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi while delivering his speech said that education should be used extensively as a tool to solve the basic problems of the society. He also called upon the teaching fraternity to lay emphasis on skill development for the university to find an answer to unemployment. 

Acknowledging the role of good educational institutions, Gogoi said universities should take the lead in transforming the nations by harnessing and creating a pool of human resources capable of setting agenda in the society by virtue of their wisdom. 

The chief minister also thanked Gauhati University on conferring honorary Doctorate Degree on Philosophy on Birubala Rabha for dedicating her life in the fight against witch hunting and Jadav Payeng for singlehandedly afforesting 550 hectres in Qunamukh Sapori of the river Brahmaputra. 

Delivering his convocation address Professor Dipak C Jain advised the students to combine success with significance to pursue a meaningful vocation to bring about meaningful differences in the society. He also asked the students to strive for knowledge to make a difference in the world. 

Union Minister for State for DoNER Jitendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University Mridul Hazarika also addressed the gathering.
