Enquiry in transport department

A high level enquiry has been initiated against some officials of Assam Transport Department for their alleged involvement in illegally collecting money from trucks. Based on the memorandum submitted by some truck drivers and truck owners a few days ago, the office of the Honorable President of India has ordered the Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Jitesh Khosla to institute an enquiry to the matter. 

The Commissioner, Transport Department will head a high level enquiry into the allegation. It will be worthwhile to mention here that a group of influential Enforcement Inspectors of the Transport Department has been involved with the illegal money collections from the goods laden trucks which enters Assam from other states.

The Pranab Baruah Artist Award 2012 will be conferred upon eminent sculptor Janak Jhanhkar Narzari on May 19 at a ceremony at Vivekanada Kendra, Guwahati. The award comprises of a recitation, a memo, copies of artist Pranab Baruah’ art-work and cash of rupees 25,000. In yet another case of gross negligence, the ground staff of the Jet Airways has reportedly damaged the filming equipment of a journalist who landed on 30th of July at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati from Mumbai.
