Enquiry in transport department
A high level enquiry has been initiated against some officials of Assam Transport Department for their alleged involvement in illegally collecting money from trucks. Based on the memorandum submitted by some truck drivers and truck owners a few days ago, the office of the Honorable President of India has ordered the Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Jitesh Khosla to institute an enquiry to the matter.
The Commissioner, Transport Department will head a high level enquiry into the allegation. It will be worthwhile to mention here that a group of influential Enforcement Inspectors of the Transport Department has been involved with the illegal money collections from the goods laden trucks which enters Assam from other states.

Peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi was today arrested at Guwahati by the city police. He was arrested from the Guwahati Press club premise where he organised a press conference. The police cited that he broke the restrictions under the Representation of the people' Act. Hower he was released from the police custody. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi ordered him to release.
