Centre’s NO to ST status

The centre has rejected the demands for ST status to six ethnic tribes forcing many organizations to hit the streets.

Ministry for tribal affairs sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that after a thorough study the authorities have  rejected the demands ST status for tea garden workers, Ahoms, Koch Rajbanshi, Chutias and Muttocks citing lack of laid down norms.

The decision is set to run into a hail of protest in Delhi and Dispur. The demand was long standing and both Delhi and Dispur have been assuring these ethnic tribes of their due status for the last ten years.

Both Congress and BJP promised S status for the 6 ethnic tribes for overall uplift.

This exposes the governments scandalous motives and false poll promises. This also goes against the spirits of the Pro Talks faction of ULFA , whom the government had promised the STfication of the state .Successive governments have done this and the present has proved that they are no better than the previous.

Unidentified body dumped in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar, Mar 3: An unidentified body struck no less sensation in Kokrajhari on Saturday after somebody dumped it in the evening. Local residents in Ward No 19 told Assam Times that they spotted the body at 5.45 in the evening which they suspected to have seen after somebody dumped in the area. CPM, BJP going neck and neck

PRASENJIT SAHAAGARTALA: CPM  is facing a tough battle to retain power in Tripura assembly polls where counting of votes is in progress. The ruling party and BJP  are going neck and neck till 9.30 in the morning while Congress fails to take early lead anywhere.
