ONGC Himalayan Association of Assam Charter is organising two days adventure sports carnival and ethnic food festival at ONGC’s Assam Asset helipad on Monday. The event covers rope Climbing, Para chiling, Artificial Climbing apart from ethnic foods of different communities.

Punaram Mili, an employee of Assam Asset, is the first Assamese, who elected as president of All India Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Tribe welfare Association. Table tennis player and journalist Nilim Chowdhury memorial Upper Assam Table Tennis Tournament has started from January 21 at Dibrugarh Indoor Stadium. The tournament was inaugurated by Sandip Gosh, the zonal secretary of ABITA. Total 94 players from Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat and Duliajan have joined this competition. Scholar of Tai language, historian, litterateur and literary pensioner of Chetia Gaon of Lakhimpur town, Aijep Phukan died due to cardiac arrest at Dispur Nursing home on January 21 at an age of 75 years. He was born at Jalukkota-Narayanpur of Lakhimpur in 1943. Late Phukan dedicated his life for the development of Tai culture and literature. “Swadhinota Jujaru Chowfalung Urofe Ranuwa Gohainsi”, “Akhamor Atit Aru Bortomaan”, Tai Sankskritir Jilikoni”, Mohabibir Lachit Borphukan” are some noted book published by Phukon. In separate road accidents on Friday, 2 persons died on spot and 3 were seriously injured. One was at Suffry, Sonari where a Maruti 800 of Ghana Gogoi of ONGC was hit by a TATA Sumo (without number plate) from back. As a result the Maruti car was badly damaged and Handique badly injured. Though Gogoi was admitted to the Charaidew Sub-Division Civil Hospital at Rojabari could not be saved. The Tata Sumo was hired by Army personals, who are in civil dress and fled from the spot after the accident.
The other accident was at Hatighuli of Gaurisagar on National highway 37. A blue colour Indica going towards Jorhat made head on collision with a rice carrying truck going towards Sivasagar....
Social worker, ardent follower of satriya culture and astrologer, Prasanna Mahanta of Sr iSri Na-Mati Katonipar Satra, Nangalamora passes away at Assam medical college, Dibrugarh on January 17 at an age of 53. Due to a sudden stroke, Mahanta became unconscious during a pal-nam of this Satra organised for Bhogali Bihu. He was shifted to Assam Medical college, Dibrugarh.
The sudden demise of Mahanta creates sorrow among his family and friends. He was also an employee of irrigation department. Late Mahanta left behind his married daughter, a son and his wife.
