BJP sure of success in municipal polls

All major political parties are gearing up for the upcoming municipal and town committee polls. BJP is confident of sweeping the polls slated for next month. The state Opposition party exuded confidence two days after Congress president revealed it preparedness to face the polls.

Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Tuesday BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya said that his party would win majority of the 74 municipal boards and town committees.
He said, "We hope we will be able to capture majority of the bodies. To fight the elections effectively, we have divided the entire state into eight zones." According to him, the zones have been empowered to select candidates and identify local issues to the campaign.

Candidates can file nominations from January 19 to January 28 and scrutiny would be done on January 30. The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed on February 2. Counting would take place on February 13.
