The National Handloom Expo 2014-15 begins at the Kokrajhar Rash Mela Field on Sunday.
The expo is organized by the Bodoland Regional Apex Weavers and Artisans’ Cooperative Federation (BRAWFED) in collaboration with the Development Commissioner, Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India under the Market Promotion Programme for handloom sponsored by the GOI.
The 20 day long expo aims to facilitate and present market link to the local weavers through the various programmes and also facilitate consumers to purchase genuine handloom fabrics woven by local artisans.
BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary is slated to attend the program as chief guest and inaugurate the event in the presence of other dignitaries.
A total of 55 participants from Bodoland, Assam, Manipur and states like Haryana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, and Delhi will exhibit their products.
Besides the regular stalls, a customer assistance centre is also set up for market survey and analysis of demands, needs and preference of the buyers of Kokrajhar.
Musical nights, fashion show on Indian and Bodoland handloom woven fabrics, seminar, workshop, quizzes shall be organized during the expo.
Talking to reporters in Kokrajhar Sunday, N N Rana Patgiri, Managing Director, BRAWFED said that the expo aims to facilitate the consumer to purchase genuine handloom fabrics availing up to 20 percent rebate offer by the potential productive primary, district level cooperative societies, federations and others of Bodoland as well as participants from Assam and other states.
