A seismic wave of protest hits the state a day after Dr Subramanima Swamy asked the Bangladeshi immigrants to convert to Hinduism if they want to stay in Assam. Muslim people in large number took to the streets in the various places across the state in protest against the BJP leader’s comment.
Congress, AGP leaders are set to oppose Dr Sawamy in a day or two while the state BJP leaders are also not prepared to react immediately.
“Don’t spear communal tension in Assam. Let us live in peace. Why Dr Swamy is targeting the immigrants whom he wants to be converted to Hinduism, “said a protester who took to the streets in Guwahati on Sunday.
Another protester told Assam Times,” BJP is known for communal politics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is saying one thing. But a senior party leader was allowed to say differently. We won’t allow these to happen.”
“It would do more harm than good. Immigrants are immigrants ---Hindu or Muslims matter. They must quit India. But Dr Swamy’s formula is quit communal and it hurts our sentiments,” said a protester.

Assam Govt should have arrested Swamy for creating communal tension and prosecuted according to Law of the Land.
The problem is we need a Lalu Prasad, who had the guts to arrest LK Advani in Bihar during his infamous rathyatra.
The opposition Asom Gana Parishad has given a 12 hour bandh call on Monday in protest against the Congress government's failure to deal with price rise and law and order breakdown. AGP leaders told assamtimes that the statewide bandh would come into force from 5 on Monday morning to end at 5 in the evening. On the other hand, the opposition party has exempted the essential services.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday reviewed the state's law and order situation at a meeting with top police and civil officials. Immediately after arriving in Guwahati, the chief minister invited IGP SN Singh and chief secretary Jitesh Khosla. Azara case and the pre poll violence in the Rabha Hasong areas figured in the review meeting. Gogoi further asked the duo to remain prepared for updating the NRC from next month.
Police got remand of 4 accused in the sensational Azara case where two women were gangraped and killed on October. Chief judicial magistrate remanded all the four accused for 7 days when they were produced before the court on Saturday afternoon. Then they were taken to Panbazar police station for further interrogation. On the other hand, a team of forensic experts have collected samples from the various spots to unearth the details of the case.
In a huge success, Dispur police have busted a gang of thieves who are minor boys during an operation on Friday night. A team of policemen managed to catch 16 thieves---of 9 to 15 years of age. Police further seized altogether 20 bicycles along with some gold ornaments. The kingpin is a 9 years of age who is believed to have made huge revelations before. The seized bicycles are being kept in Dispur police station waiting for the owners.
The identity of the two girls---believed to have been raped and kill in Azara seems to have surfaced. Two families have rushed to Azara police station to identify the bodies of the two girls who have been missing from Bidyapur in Bongaigaon from October 22. Guwahati police on Friday afternoon brought the four accused in the Azara case to the Panbazar police to intensify the probe into it. They were brought to the police station after a priliminary medical. Marathon interrogation is going on. All of them would be produced before the chief judicial magistrate seeking police remand. According to source, the accused confessed to have gangraped the two girls at a house on October 22.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi will ensure speedy probe into the Azara case to be tried in the fast track court. Talking to reporters in Delhi on Friday, Gogoi said that he would ask the authority to expedite the probe into the case where two girls were gangraped before being killed in Azara. Gogoi said that he would arrive in Guwahati to keep the process on track. Before that Gogoi held a crucial meeting with ministers Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Akon Bora and Rockybul Hussain at the Assam Bhawan in Delhi.
Assam BJP will go it alone in the forticoming Lok Sabha polls. Talking to reporters on Friday state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal said that the party has no dearth of strength to fight the polls. He categorically denied any move to forge poll pact with AGP. The party is all set to finetune the poll candidates in all the 14 constituencies.
Violent protest broke out in Azara as the angry local residents on Friday clashed with policemen who resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob. As policemen started beating up the people, a section of the protesters pelted stones at the policemen. The protestors alleged that the police have been trying to call it an accident. A section of media people has been injured in the violent protest.
Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday accused of running nefarious cartel of meat, fish and onion across the state. Talking to reporters in Guwahati, state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal said that the Congress government has been patronizing the cartel. He said that these cartels were responsible for soaring onion prices. He further dared the government to take action against these cartel runners.
