Chief minister Tarun Gogoi held the much-awaited cabinet meeting at his Koinadhara residence on Sunday evening. But contrary to what was widely expected no minister was asked to put in papers to reshuffle his cabinet. The chief minister did not mention anything about cabinet expansion and reshuffe in the meeting which last for about two hours.
According to minister Gautom Roy, the cabinet discussed recruitment in police department and cleared the proposal to recruit around 8000 policemen in the district level. Further it hiked the cx-gratia to the next kin of the victims in violence to Rs 5 lakh. The cabinet decided to ensure pension for the teacher immediately after retirement.
It furthre asked the social welfare department to clear a list of mentally challenged people across the state to ensure a clear cut policy to rehabilitate them at an earlier date.
Earlier it was believed that Gogoi would ask his ministers to resign en mass to reshuffle his cabinet. But it did not happen. The reshuffle is expected by tomorrow or day after.
