Crackdown against ultras in Garo hills

Tension is simmering in West Garo hills a day after the militants killed a police officer at Songmagre near Purakhasia. Apart from intensifying the combing operation to nab the militants more and more security forces are arriving in the district. Garo militants and ULFA are believed to have been hiding in the entire area to carry out explosion in some selected pockets to make their presence felt these days. The gunfire took place during a combing operation a day after security forces held six hardcore ULFA militants from the area. The police officer led the group to dismantle the hideout at Songmagre village bordering Bangladesh border in the morning. Promoth Sangma was killed on the spot.
