Flood waters start receding in Guwahati. But at a snail’s pace. The situation is gradually improving following the halt of rains. But the severely affected areas of Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Tarun Nagar, Rajgarh besides Zoo Road have yet to get out of the blues. Flood water from Meghalaya inundated Betkuchi, Bashishta Chariali, Katahbari and Gorchuk localities of Guwahati along NH 37. All government and private educational institutions in and around the city remained closed for the third consecutive day on Wednesday. These are expected to open from Monday.
Defying the diktat of separatist militants in northeast India, the media fraternity of the city has celebrated the 64th Republic Day of India at Guwahati Press Club. Following the tradition, the media persons and other patriotic citizens had assembled in the campus of the pioneer press club of the region in the morning today and hoisted the national flag.
