RI for two engineers

A special court in Guwahati has sent sentenced two engineers of the agriculture department to two years rigorous imprisonment for misappropriating development funds in Dima Hasao district. The court order was issued on Wednesday which further imposed fine of Rs 15,000 after Deepak Hazarika and Promod Chandra Saikia were convicted.

The CBI was probing the anomalies in the department in the hills district where funds meant for agriculture were misappropriated. CBI registered the case on May 13, 2010 and chargesheet was filed on November 23, 2011 before the special CBI court against the duo. They allegedly misappropriated the funds from the integrated jhumia development project implemented by the agriculture department (engineering) in Dima Hasao district. Dispur then referred 10 cases to the CBI for investigation.
