SSS felicitates Pushpa Narayan Bhakat

Pushpa Narayan Bhakat (born 1929) was felicitated by Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva (SSS) on September 7 in a solemn function at his residence in Salbari village, Tufanganj, West Bengal for his dedication to spread Eka Sharana Nama Dharma and its culture in West Bengal. SSS was represented by Palash Pratim Bora, the convener of its Madhupur events.

Pushpa Narayan Bhakat has been engaged in religious activities since taking initiation at Jharabari Sattra in 1956. Later he became a Sharanacharjya of Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha. He revived the Haripur Sattra and Kakatkuta-Bhela Sattra in Koch behar District. In Jalpaiguri District he established seven Namghars in Jalpaiguri, Dhupguri, Amguri, Bhujali, Jalpesh, Chalkuma Kathaltali, and Magurmari. Jitendra Nath Pradhani, Sattradhikar of Chatrshal Sattra assisted him in all these activities.

Pushpa Narayan Bhakat donated one bigha land in Salbari and started the construction of a public Namghar in 2006. Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha has taken it up recently.

Palash Pratim Bora felicitated Pushpa Narayan Bhakat, who is ailing and bed-ridden on behalf of Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva. A citation, Gamocha, Sarai and Cheleng were presented. Several devotees from different parts of West Bengal were present in the solemn occasion. Pushpa Narayan Bhakat expressed his gratitude and blessed the initiative of SSS to spread the message of Srimanta Sankaradeva.

In a major development, NCERT has formally promised to include Srimanta Sankaradeva in school curriculum. They have communicated it to Society for Srimanta Sankaradeva (SSS). Chandra Sadayat, Prof and Head, Deptt of Education in Languages (DEL), NCERT informed SSS President Dr Sanjib Kumar Borkakoti about it in a letter.
