Illegal coal depots running in Nazira

Defying Supreme Court directives, Illegal coal tradings are going on in Nazira without any hindrance. Behind this illegal tradings are a section of police officials who have been aiding and abetting the dishonest traders to carry out the dirty deals in coal. The power circle has been remaining active in Lashmija, Bihubor, Gelakey along with a few other places in Nazira sub division. A number of coal depots has allegedly been running in the full knowledge of the district administration along the Assam-Nagaland border areas under the patronage of a circle of powerful politicians who have been helping police and traders. The Sivasagar district administration has banned transportation of coal beyond 10 tones by 6 wheelers and movement of 10 wheelers in the rural roads. But of no avail. No less than 300 over loaded coal trucks every day in Nazira. According to allegations, the uninterrupted movement of huge coal trucks have put the roads and bridges in dilapidated condition in the entire sub division. The local people are bound to bear the brunt. The various local organisations including the Gelakey regional unit of All Assam Muslim Youva Parishad,Tai Ahom Jatiya Gana Mancha, AJYCP etc.submitted a memorendum to the SDO ( C) of Nazira demanding measures to stop coal transportation on the Mackeypore-Lakshmijan road.These organisations further threatened to will block the road if immediate measures are not taken.
