NHAI officials kidnapped

3 NHAI officials Umesh Suresh Sharma, project manager, Jogaprasad Deka, Deputy Project Manager, Dhrubajyoti Choudhury, Engineer, including the driver and the PSO have been kidnapped by unidentified miscreants from Manderdisa-Hathikhali under Langting police station, Nagaon district on March 12 late night.

Police told this correspondent over telephone that the militant outfit, Black Widow has denied its involvement in the aforsaid abduction and no ransom has yet been demanded by any group.

Sikh delegation visits Chapormukh Gurudwara

Another Nagaon accused held in Jagiroad

The Nagaon police have arrested yet another youth in connection with the recent incident where a tractor dealer along with his associated assaulted a group of former rebels as they were raising funds to feed to flood hit people.  Identified as Manoranjan Das alias Manoj, the elder brother of the main accused Raju Das was caught in Jagiroad on Tuesday wee hours.  Police interrogation is going on and he is expected to be produced before the chief judicial magistrate in the afternoon.

Biker dead in Roha mishap

A biker died on the spot when his two wheelers rammed into a stranded truck in Raha on Monday.  Identified as Hirakjyoti Pathak, he was on his way to home in Kampur and as he reached Kakotigaon area, his speedy vehicle rammed into the truck.  Local residents and police rushed him to the hospital where had was declared brought dead.

The Tezpur police have arrested Akhil Gogoi when the influential peasant leader was leading a huge protest in the Sonitpur district headquarters demanding land part as for the landless lot.  Barely one hours after the KMSS leader was arrested his fans and activists hit the streets in many places demanding his unconditional release paralyzing traffic movement on the road.  In Doboka, KMSS leaders in large numbers spilled to the roads in protest against Gogoi’s arrest. Normal life in Chapormukh area in the central Assam district of Nagaon comes to a grinding halt on Sunday following a local bandh call by a few organizations in protest against the recent attack on former rebels at Panigaon.  Roads in this area are remaining deserted as vehicles are off from the roads.  A huge crowd in Nagaon on Friday warned of a fierce armed struggle to counter the attack on the indigenous people by s section of the outsiders. Speakers after speakers in the massive meetings of thr former ULFA rebels strongly advocated a full circle armed struggle to ensure the rights of the indigenous people over the state’s resources.
