Van Mahotsav Week in Kokrajhar
BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary flagged off the vehicle for distributing saplings in various areas from his residence Bodofa Nwgwr coinciding celebration of Van Mahotsav Week on Tuesday inKokrajhar.
The 135 Inf Bn (TA) Eco Task Force has organized the programme which will continue till July 12.
Borgoyary, who is also in-charge of BTC Forest department, said that large scale deforestation has been taking place inside the reserve forest which needs special initiative and social involvement. He said that the BTC Forest department has been working for the protection of forest cover and awareness among the people in the area.
Borgoyary said that the BTC forest department has been dealing tough to evict the encroachment and protection of forest. “An eviction drive continues for 10-15 times in a particular area but the encroacher returns back in no time”, he said.
He said that the community based organisations should come forward to help protect the reserve forest.
BTC Deputy Chief asserted that the encroachment in the forest area has made difficult for forest guards and forest officials to conserve forest due to unfriendly relations with the encroachers.

An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel.
