Peoples from all walks of life and organisation recalled contributions of Bir Chilagang Basumatary, founder chairman of Bodo Liberation Tiger (BLT) towards the Bodoland movement, who revolt with arms for the separate state of Bodoland within India on his 17th death anniversary at the burial place Bir Chilagang Puri at Bongshigaon today in Kokrajhar.
It was organized by Bir Chilagang Martyrs Tomb Development Committee, Bongshigaon where irrespective of organization, party and local people thronged to paid floral tribute at the cemetery of Basumatary at Bongshigaon.
Ramani Basumatary, widow of Basumatary paid rich floral tribute to the tomb followed leaders from various organisations. Basumatary survived by wife and three children two sons and a daughter. BTC executive members Mono Kumar Brahma, Sabharam Basumatary, Reo Reoa Narzihary, MLAs Pradip Kumar Brahma, Pramila Rani Brahma, All Bodo Students Union and BPF leaders paid tribute to Bsaumatary and observed condolence in memory of Basumatary for his departed soul.
Basumatary was the founder chairman of the then Bodoland Liberation Tiger (BLT) who revolt with arms for the separate state of Bodoland within India,was born on 1st February, 1959 and expired on June 28, 1997 due to prolonged illness.
Niranjoy Mushahary, convenor of the tomb development committee said that the committee has been organizing the death anniversary of Basumatary every year to recall Chilagang’s contribution towards the Bodoland movement for creation of separate Bodoland state.He said he had struggled for the cause of the identity of the Bodos.
Among others BTC members Doneswar Goyary,Indra Mahan Brahma,Rahindra Nath Brahma , Narayan Chandra Basumatary, BPF Kokrajhar district President were present.
