NIA to probe BTAD violence: Gogoi

The Assam Government has recommended NIA probe into the BTAD violence where at least 33 people were killed.

Talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting in Dispur, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that this is a fit case for NIA probe.

Gogoi said that his government has sought extra forces from the Centre apart from Cobra forces to firmly deal with the situation.

Dr MMS is the MP from Assam and he should take the moral responsibilty for the violence. The UPA and state government who had been ruling for the last 10 years must be blamed for such butchery. But Congress sees only shadow of Modi on anything. The Congress leaders leaders who used to revel in the luxury and comforts in Delhi offices were always apathetic towards the violence in Kashmir and  Punjab during the 1970's and 1980's. The secular leaders were more philosohical and much less practical in understanding the problems of people in all parts of the country. There was similar violence in 2012 in NE. Then the government should have take precautionary measures to avert the occurance of similar incidents. When there is NO capable ruler or leader at the centre, the state governments will also follow the anarchy. "Yatha Raja Thatha Praja" means "AS THE RULER SO THE RULED". If the king of the country is of good character, with good heart and always thinking of well-being of his subjects, and if he is a spiritual thinker and peaceful minded, his subjects will be like him in all these ways too

Security forces claimed to have killed 2 GNLA militants at an encounter in Goalpara bordering Meghlaya on Sunday. The encounter took place at Balaikhamar in the wee hours during a joint operation by Goalpara police and army’s 7th Jat Regiment of the Red Horn division. Police further recovered two 7.65 mm pistols, 9 cartridges and three grenades were recovered from the spot. GNLA militants have been unlashing terror among the local residents for the last couple of months in the form of extortion.
Food situation virtually remains unchanged. It has gone from bad to worse with nearly four lakh people still affected even though water levels were receding at most places in the state. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority,  3.74 lakh people in three districts are still grappling with the crisis.Altogether 204 villages in Goalpara, Kamrup Rural and Dhemaji districts were hit by the floods with 3.66 lakh people affected in Goalpara alone.Nearly 50,000 hectares of crop area is still under water in Assam with over 37,000 hectares having been affected in Goalpara, hitting nearly 83,000 farming families.
After a brief silence, rhino poachers Kaziranga embroiled in yet another encounter with forest guards on Saturday. The encounter took place at Burhapahar range where the poachers was killed. Acting on a tip off, a team of forest guards on patrolling followed the poachers in the wee hours followed by the heavy exchange of firing. "The poachers opened fired forcing the guards to retaliate. One of the poachers was killed while the rest of the group managed to escape. One .303 rifle and live cartridges were recovered from about the slain poacher who is yet to be identified.
Chief minister Tarun Gagoi unveiled the jersey and team of Northeast United at a brief function in Guwahati on Saturday.Composed by renowned singer Angarag Mahanta, the team also released its tune in the same function in presence of John Abraham. 
An uneasy situation is prevailing in Bongaigaon following the shoot out where an ABMSU leader sustained serious injury on Saturday. The incident took place at 11 in the morning at Manikpur where unidentified gunmen pumped several rounds of bullets on ABMSU general secretary Lafikul Islam. The miscreants managed to flee immediately after the shoot out. A seriously injured Islam was rushed to the Lower Assam Hospital where his condition is said to be critical. Senior police officials rushed to the spot. But nobody has been arrested in this connection. Nobody has so far owned up the responsibility. But the needle of suspicion points towards Ex-BLT members.
Once again a molestation attempt has forced the state and its people to hang head in shame. This time the epicenter is Tinsukia district where an Adivasi girl had to jumped from a moving bus to get rid of a molestation attempt on Friday. According to information, two girls jumped from the bus when of their co passengers made a desperate attempt to molest them on a moving bus in the evening. The hapless girls had no option but to save themselves from the molester passenger. One of the two girls sustained serious injury and died on the way to the hospital. Details awaited.
Durga puja is over. Puja pandels have fallen silent. The idols of the goddess of strength, mostly, have been immersed in rivers and water bodies across the state on Friday evening after the Mahanavami and Dasami on the same day. But a section of the puja organizers are set to immerse the idols only on Saturday morning. Guwahati also falls silent after soaking in the festivities for a week. The idols were immersed on the river Brahmaputra while city district administration has asked the remaining organizers to complete the immersion of the idols by Saturday noon.
Sankardev birth anniversary is being organized with cultural procession, seminar of the saint and staging of bhaonas across the state from Friday. The disciples of the saint Sankardeva in Guwahati also took out clourful cultural procession on Friday and Saturday on the occasion. Our Majuli Correspondent adds: Durga puja festivity hardly grips in Majuli. But the river island is in the deep grip of the traditional religious fervor of the Sankardev anniversary. Flood waters continue its receding trend. But the affected people have yet to get out of the blues. The toll has gone up to 44 with the recovery of yet another body in Morigaon on Thursday. With this, the toll in Goalpara alone stands at 20 while 16 persons lost their lives in Kamrup Rural. These are apart from 6 in Guwahati and one each in Morigaon and Dhubri. According to official information, 242 villages in four districts are still reeling under the flood waves. In Goalpara, nearly 3.7 lakh people are affected, followed by around 15,000 in Kamrup Rural district.
