An uneasy situation is prevailing in Bongaigaon following the shoot out where an ABMSU leader sustained serious injury on Saturday. The incident took place at 11 in the morning at Manikpur where unidentified gunmen pumped several rounds of bullets on ABMSU general secretary Lafikul Islam. The miscreants managed to flee immediately after the shoot out. A seriously injured Islam was rushed to the Lower Assam Hospital where his condition is said to be critical. Senior police officials rushed to the spot. But nobody has been arrested in this connection. Nobody has so far owned up the responsibility. But the needle of suspicion points towards Ex-BLT members.
Tensions escalated in Manipur’s violence-hit Jiribam district on Sunday night as clashes between security forces and protesters turned deadly, officials reported. A young protester, identified as 21-year-old K. Athouba, was fatally shot amid the chaos.
